The Luxe by Anna Godbersen (Book Review #139)

I rate this book 3.5 out of 5 stars.

(Finished Reading: 28/11/17

My 32nd book this year)

1899, those high up in society, the rich, the beautiful and handsome all show off their best attributes. Acting as perfect wealthy individuals yet each and every one of them hold their own secrets that could cause their whole lives to crumble before them.

One of the elite has to choose between true love or duty to protect the household and family name.

One of them has to give up his freedom to keep the family name.

One of them is full of spite and wants to destroy the original elites and claim the title of “best lady” for herself.

The Luxe is all about glamour, glitz, scandal, gossip and the need to stay at the top of society, no matter what the cost may be.

***SPOILER ALERT***

Your typical rich people problems and rich people arguments until one Elite family has hit financial crisis and the only way to save the family name is to marry into another richer name.

There is jealousy, deceit, hate and gossip. Those who appear to be great friends can turn out to be your ultimate downfall. An easy read.

The ending was unexpected. Although the storyline was intended to be intriguing and captivating, it actually felt calm and very slowly delivered. I would have enjoyed more detail into the luxuries and better concealed secrets. The ending makes you want to pick up book 2 of the series just to find out the whole truth.

I would recommend this series only to a female audience and for those who enjoy an easy straightforward read. Book 2 is definitely on my to read list in the future.
