Book Review #53: Geek Girl by Cindy C. Bennett

I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.

(Finished Reading: 12/03/14
My 12th book this year.)

Jen is a 17 year old foster child who has joined a new family, but in the same town as her previous foster family. A goth girl to the extreme, she uses this image to keep people at arms length so she won’t be hurt again. With a small handful of friends who party until daylight and don’t think much of school, Jen makes a bet with her friends. If she wins they pay for a new lip piercing for her.

So what’s the bet? To turn the geek into a bad boy. A geek of her choosing. A geek who stands out from the rest, Trevor. Jen has to get his attention, keep him interested and make him one of her crowd.

I love how we get to watch the story unfold to see how Jen and Trevor fight their differences and awkwardness toward numerous situations. Having once been a both a geek and a troublesome teen, I can relate from both sides. I can see all the very realistic situations being forced together until someone compromises something. The odd couple are amusing to read about and I would highly recommend this book. I laughed out loud and felt a lump in my throat when my own tears threatened to fall. I absolutely loved this book and would quite possibly read it again one day.
